Selene

Selene is known as the original moon goddess in Greek mythology. In fact, she pre-dates the Olympic pantheon. Born to Titan parents, Selene is the female embodiment of the moon and the lunar cycles.

Moon deities like Selene played a very important part in mythology, and being one of the first made Selene very important to the ancient Greeks.

She was portrayed as having a pale face, great beauty, and wearing a half moon on her forehead.

Note From Jessica: "Selene was the first goddess portrait I completed for this series. Here I've shown her wearing her symbolic crescent moon crown while holding a full moon in her hands. Her silvery eyes seem to glow in the moonlight, which illuminates her pale skin."
