Isis

Isis is perhaps the most well known and beloved goddess from Egyptian mythology.  Isis was the first daughter born to the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut, and is considered a moon goddess.  Isis was thought to be both beautiful, feminine and powerful, with a kindness for her people unmatched by any of the other gods or goddesses.

It is said that Isis spent time with her people, and especially focussed on her female followers.  She taught them about weaving, prepration of food and even shared her wisdom on dealing with men with the women in her worship.

Although Isis was celebrated as a giver of life, representing motherhood and creation, she was also known to rule over death and destruction with her powerful magic. 

Note From Jessica: "In my portrayal of Isis, I was inspired by ancient images of her and tried to blend those ancient styles with a modern look.  I've shown her with her popular crescent moon headdress, and with her jewel toned wings outstretched behind her.  An Ankh symbol adorns her arm cuff and her hair and makeup are done in the traditional Egyptian style.  A full moon provides her symbolic back drop and represents her moon deity aspect.  It was most important to me to convey a sense of both femininity and power at once with this image, since that is what Isis represents to me."
