About Giclee Prints
What are Giclee Prints?
We offer a large selection of Giclee re-productions in various sizes. You may be asking yourself why they are more expensive that our standard prints and what the advantages are, so here is some information on Giclee printing to help you to decide.
Giclee Printing
In giclee printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting. Giclee (pronounced Gee’clay) is a French term meaning to spray or squirt, which is how an inkjet printer works. However, it is not the same as a standard desktop inkjet printer, and is much larger.
The Ink Technology:
We use an Epson 4880 to print our Giclees which features the Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology. The inks used in Giclee printing are light-fast and instant drying which produces archival quality reproductions that can last up to 200 years without fading.
The Paper:
For our Giclee Art Prints, we use a beautiful thick Velvet art paper which is lightly textured. This paper teamed with our Epson ink technology re-produce art prints that would be difficult to distinguish from the original painting.
The Choice:
Giclees have many advantages over our standard prints:
- They are avaialble in larger formats- up to 17"X22"
- Archival Quality- will last for generations
- Depth and Color- the color is incredibly accurate and the images have depth like the original
What I would suggest is that if you are looking to collect several images and do not plan on fancy framing, then you could stick with our standard art prints which are less costly- especially if there are multiple images you want to buy. If you want a larger art print, or are planning on custom framing, or if it is a special gift for someone, or you are an art collector, etc...then you will definitly appreciate the Giclee Prints and will find them to be well worth the extra money.
